Human Resource Development Strategies and Worker’s Performance in the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron: An Empirical Analysis

Abstract
This study examined the relationship between human resource development strategies and worker’s performance in the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron. It was premised on the observation that most institutions in Nigeria still indulge in the practice of outsourcing most of their services to consultants, sometimes at a very high cost to the organisation .The survey method was adopted to carry out the study, hence, the utilization of personal interview and administration of a structured questionnaire to sampled population of the study. The findings of the study revealed that training had a positively significant relationship with worker’s performance in the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron. It was also found out that training and retraining of staff could bring about a cut in the administrative and operational cost of the institution. Based on the above findings, it was recommended amongst others, the need to give priority to continuous training and retraining of staff, with particular emphasis on technical and professional areas especially for the academic staff, effective grievance redress mechanism for settling staff disputes and the provision of needed working tools/equipments and facilities.
